How to sew a dart

Darts shape flat fabric round the body. Sew to a fine point and press over a curve.
Step by step
- Mark the dart legs and point on the wrong side of the fabric.
- Fold right sides together so the legs match, and pin.
- Sew from the wide end towards the point.
- Near the point, sew right along the fold and run off the fabric. Do not backstitch at the tip.
- Tie the thread tails in a knot to secure.
- Press the dart flat first, then over a tailor's ham or rolled towel to keep the shape.
