Where to go next with soft toys

New fabrics, safer toys for children and stronger seams.
- Once confident with polar fleece or quilting cotton, try bulkier fabrics; leave fake fur and fluffy fabrics until later, as they're harder to pin and sew.
- For children's toys, avoid small beads, ribbons and other choking hazards. For under-3s, embroider the eyes and features rather than using safety eyes or buttons (Let's Knit; NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, checked 1 Nov 2026).
- For machine sewing use a ballpoint needle for fleece and a universal needle for corduroy.
- Use quality thread, a new sharp needle and tightly spaced stitching for strong seams.
