Free-motion embroidery: a beginner's guide
Drawing with your sewing machine: you move the fabric, the machine makes the stitches.
- Also called thread sketching, thread painting or freestyle machine embroidery.
- Unlike computerised embroidery, there's no programmed pattern: you guide the fabric freely.
- Most home machines can do it if the feed dogs can be lowered or covered and a free-motion (darning) foot fits.
- Steady, even speed matters most.
