Common patchwork mistakes and how to fix them

Blocks the wrong size, points that do not meet, stretched pieces.
- Blocks too small: the seam allowance is too wide. Do the three-strip test.
- Blocks too big: seam allowance too narrow, or cutting a little large.
- Corners do not meet: press seams in opposite directions so they nest, and pin at the joins.
- Wonky, stretched pieces: press, do not iron, and handle bias edges gently.
- Fabric bleeding or shrinking later: decide whether to pre-wash before cutting.
- Trust the unit sizes in your pattern and check them as you go.
