How to do turned-edge appliqué (fusible method)

A clean edge that will not fray: best for larger shapes with gentle curves.
Step by step
- Cut the shape from paper-backed fusible web and fuse it to the back of the fabric.
- Cut out the fabric 3 to 6 mm beyond the edge of the web.
- Clip into inner curves and points (like the V of a heart); clip outer curves to ease them.
- Fold the allowance over the paper edge and stick it to the web side.
- Fuse the shape to the background and stitch it down.

Bobbin's tip
Gentle curves and few points are easiest. Very small shapes are hard to turn.
