Appliqué: a beginner's guide

Sewing fabric shapes onto a background. Raw-edge fusible appliqué is the quickest way in.
- There are two families: raw-edge (the cut edge shows, held by fusible web and stitching) and turned-edge (the edge is folded under).

- Needle-turn appliqué turns under a tiny allowance by hand for a softer, traditional look, but takes most practice.
- Shapes that tuck under others go down first.
